“If you’re wedding planning skills aren’t that of a ‘Leading Wedding Planner’ and no one will give you a diploma in Co-ordinating Colours and you still need to work in a budget, the Alice in Wonderland theme is just what you need. This theme leads to a lot of savings, DIY project and well “randomness”. That being said, no one will mind your homemade topsy-turvy cake. They could even belief you intended it that way, in fact this kind of ridiculousness is expected and encouraged. “

I would like to encourage ALL to really go any way you like with this one – And I do mean this  literally… 😉

Who needs advance wedding planning skills any way if you have a touch of enchanted fairytale magic?

Go MAD my Mad Hatter Friends!

1950’s POP ART popping around the Bridal scene

Hey Love birds,
This week at Newton & Strauss we are changing things up a bit. Last month we have shared; grey week, eco week and black & white week. (Hope you enjoyed it and found something to inspire you while planning your wedding).

Now for the first week of March I thought I would push your boundaries and maybe show you something you did not consider before. That is why this week we will be looking at Pop Art as a wedding theme. This theme is currently POPPING up everywhere (LOL) and is quite a change from the lovely, vintage chic look that is currently dominating the WWW. This retro theme combines clashing colours, funky fonts and accents inspired by pop-art for a fun filled quirky wedding day

Are you a bride that hates doing what is expected, tired of traditions – why not get married the way your grandmother should have? Well, my modern bride – the 1950’s Pop art theme is definitely something to get excited about.

Bold colours, geometric patterns, vibrant paint hues and oh so retro, get ready for a Pop Art party. This is a theme with lots of personality and even something old. (The Pop Art movement originated in the mid 1950’s in Britain which is very similar to the “mod” trend).

Below please find a list of ideas from 1 Wedding source. (www.1weddingsource.com/blog)

•   queenslandbrides_popart_9 Create table centers using glass bottles such as milk or soda bottles and fill with two or three flowers in vibrant shades.
•    Serve up your wedding cocktails in personalized soda bottles.
•    For wedding favours or just as a snack give your guests cones of popcorn in different flavours.
•    Create a retro inspired bouquet with colourful garden flowers such as dahlias, chrysanthemums and gardenias.
•    Use an old fashioned typewriter font for your invitations, menus and other stationery details. If you can get hold of an old typewriter, set it up at your reception as an alternative to a classic guest book and ask your guests to type their messages.
•    For a table centre with a brightcolors-styled-12different use retro cake stands piled high with whoopee pies standing on a pile of vintage hardback books.
•    Give your guests funky wedding invitations shaped to look like vinyl records.
•    Create whimsical signs to hang on your reception
•    Add some nostalgia with candies from your childhood and wedding favours in fun container ideas like mini jelly bean machines or personalized candy jars.
•    Give your guests some fun with a vintage gramophone and some choice records.
•    Create table centres with vases filled with colourful jelly beans and flowers or oversized personalized lollipops.
•    Decorate cupcakes with pop art images such as Marilyn Monroe and other images coordinating with the theme.
•    queenslandbrides_popart_1Hire a Wurlitzer jukebox for your cocktail hour and fill with some retro records.
•    Dress your bridesmaids in colourful fifties style dresses complete with sweetheart necklines and big skirts.
•    This trend will be reflected in the continued popularity of the bride’s ‘little white dress’ with the addition of strong lines and a modern look. Stationary will feature comic illustrations and graphics. Bold, graphic colours and whimsical decor will also be incorporated into the setting. We will also see bite-sized food and drinks such as mini sliders and mini cokes.

Just picture this; An Art gallery venue with comic book graphics, Polka dot prints and patterns, bold primary colours with pops of black and white. The bride walks in with red lips, a vintage inspired hair style and a tea-length wedding dress with a birdcage veil, next to her is the groom in his smartly tailored black suit, white shirt and a skinny black necktie.

So, ladies send out your pop art inspired ‘save the dates’ and get your guest excited for the wedding of the year!
